The art and science of Chinese healing herbs has danced around the Orient for millennia and falls within the practice of traditional Chinese medicine or (TCM). I call these Asian herbs “friendly dragons of life!”
Chinese medicine is gaining popularity in the west because the treatments are naturally based and may be easier on our bodies than western medicine. People also seek the healing of ancient Chinese medicine because they are looking for solutions to their health that they have not found with western medicine.
The holistic healing philosophy behind the use of Chinese herbal treatments is about treating the whole body. TCM doctors believe that everything within our bodies is interconnected and that the harmony of our entire system must be looked at.
The use of Chinese herbal remedies is about balance and restoring the body’s beautiful, natural harmony.
When we restore balance to our body, we restore our health.
The Chinese call this balance: “yin/yang” and also “hot/cold.” The approach also works with the “chi” or life force energy of the body. The healing power of Chinese herbs is thought to restore the chi or life force balance. This is our natural vitality.
There are a lot of Chinese herb stores and Chinese herbs online, but it is better to see a doctor who prescribes the medicinal herb recipes because each person is unique. Before you are given a Chinese herbal formula, your needs must be assessed carefully.
This is done by seeing a
doctor of TCM
or a Master Herbalist. Only after careful consideration are you given a Chinese herbal remedy or recipe. A good herb blend will balance the hot/cold-yin/yang aspect especially for you.
Doctors of TCM have a complex, but simple way of assessing their patients. They will take into consideration and/or observe your tongue, breath, processes of elimination, and do a complex pulse reading that assesses all of your main organs.
Unlike western medicine, a TCM doctor may treat other organs in relation to your medical problem. This is how the practice of harmony and balance can work to your benefit. TCM addresses your body as a whole, complete system. Every part needs to be healthy for your overall health to be at its peak.
Chinese herbs for healing aren’t sold as mass-produced, standardized recipes or blends. (Although the different herbs that go into the blend should be standardized and have quality control for freshness, potency and purity.)
