Healing Juices: Fun Food Medicine

Healing juices, and food in general, can act like powerful drugs that our bodies respond to. Good or bad, our bodies react to what we put in them. In this way, food can be like a drug.

Food may be one of the most powerful forms of “medicine” we have.

I’ve honed in on some of the major illnesses, researched the foods that have been known to help these conditions and developed some healing juice recipes.

I’ve sipped, savored and seriously considered these special superdrinks for special conditions…

Side Bar: The term “Superdrink” refers to a holistic healing juice that is that is made up of superfruit and superfoods that are high in nutrients, high in antioxidants and that are all natural.

Here’s to Four Sensational Superdrinks

The great thing about all of these natural juices is that most of the ingredients are fairly inexpensive and can be found at your local grocers. (That is, with the exception of green tea and bilberry extracts; which are found at your local health food store.)

The juicy news is: a special juicer is not needed for these juices for healing! A good quality blender does the trick for all of the recipes below. Blend on high speed and enjoy…

Cancer AntiOx Cocktail

2 Cups Raspberries
1 Organic Apple, skin on, cut into quarters
2 Oz. Pomegranate Juice
2 Cups Soy Milk (If you have breast cancer, use almond milk or low-fat milk instead.)
1 Big Handful of Fresh Spinach, de-stemmed
1/2 Tsp. Cinnamon
1/8 Tsp. Turmeric
150 Mg. Green Tea Extract (optional)

Sweeten lightly to taste, if needed.
Makes 6 cups.

Vision Vitality

2.5 Cups Blueberries
2 Cups Almond Milk
1 Ripe Banana
2 Peeled Small-Med Carrots
1 Big Handful of Spinach
1/2 Tsp. Cinnamon
Pinch of Nutmeg
80 Mg. Bilberry Extract (optional)

Makes 5 cups.

Heart Happiness

2.5 Cups Raspberries
2 Tblsp. Flax
1 Big Handful of Fresh Spinach
1 Ripe Banana
21/4 Cups Almond Milk
2 Oz Pomegranate Juice
1 Tblsp. Cocoa

Sweeten lightly to taste, if needed.
Makes 6 cups.

Veggie Power Punch

(Heart and Cancer Deter Duo)

4 Cups Tomato Juice
2 Peeled Small-Med Carrots
1 Big Handful of Fresh Spinach
2 Tblsp. Ground Flax
8-10 1 Inch Shavings of Fresh Ginger
1 Small Clove of Fresh Garlic
1/4 Tsp. of Fresh Oregano
Pinch of Cayenne Pepper

This potent juice for healing is strong. Reserve it for an antioxidant boost. For serious health-nuts only!
Makes 5 cups.

Carrots: High in beta carotene, and Vitamins A and C. Also rich in Vitamin K, biotin, fiber, B6, potassium and thiamine. Carrot juice healing is said to heal the eyes and help with night vision.

Holistic Healing - Healing Juices: An assortment of colorful smoothies

Bananas: High in potassium, Vitamin B6, Vitamin C, and fiber. Also rich in riboflavin, magnesium, biotin. Good for the heart.

Apples: High in antioxidants, high in Vitamin C, fiber and potassium. Prevents heart disease and stroke. Known also to prevent cancer and type 2 diabetes.

Side Bar: A case for eating organic: organic produce is less of a threat to your body and the environment because of the omission of synthetic pesticides used in the growing process. Make organic juices when you can!

Black Raspberries/Blackberries: Rich in antioxidants, including Vitamins C and E, high in fiber, and manganese. Excellent source of B vitamins. The healthy juices of this fruit make excellent super drinks.

Low Fat Milk: High in calcium, vitamin D and protein. Rich in B vitamins and minerals. Excellent for bones.

Soy Milk: High in protein, essential fatty acids and cancer-fighting abilities. Also high in fiber. With the exception of estrogen-positive breast cancer, consuming soy foods has been recommended as an anti-cancer treatment.

Spices and Herbs: Cinnamon (antioxidant), Oregano (antioxidant), Turmeric (cancer-fighter), cayenne pepper (good for digestion and reduces blood cholesterol levels). Fresh is best.

Ginger: Helps with arthritis, digestion, nausea and nasal congestion.

Garlic: Garlic juices are said to lower blood pressure and also act as an antibiotic.

Sweeteners: Agave and maple syrup are good alternatives to sugar. See the Top Super Foods for the low-down on agave. Pure maple syrup may also be an alternative because, like agave, it has some iron and calcium in it.

Mix and match these healthful ingredients for the creation of your own juice recipes for healing. Use more or less of the recommended ingredients to tickle your individual taste buds.
